Attitudes versus Skills

Which is more important?!?

Is attitude more important in becoming "successful" or skills are more important? Success means different things to different people. To some it's personal/physical success, others financial. So it basically depends on the person how he/she can rate his/her success. For this particular blog, let us use FINANCIAL SUCCESS or Success in Lifestyle.

So going back to the question, "Which is more important in becoming successful - attitude or skills?"

Majority of the Filipinos can attest that we are full of talented people! I bet my limbs that almost all of us will agree that Filipinos are very skillful people. Right?!? Almost all countries in the world are dying to have a Filipino employee on their business - be it for personal or corporate use.

But why is it that despite the fact that we are very skillful, we still don't feel that the Philippines [or ourselves - in a small scale] is becoming successful? Have you ever wondered about this? We have all the great doctors, scientists, singers, etc. but still it seems that we are not moving forward! Why is this?!?

I once learn in a network marketing company that in order to become successful, it is important to have 90% good attitude and only 10% skills. Skills are EASILY learned but attitudes [good] need a lot of time in order for us to develop one. And it is a bit tricky because we need to develop POSITIVE ATTITUDES. For us to be able to develop one, we need to "habitually" do or practice.

Here are "some" of the bad attitudes that "majority" of the Filipinos have:
  • Happy-go-lucky habit
  • Irresponsibility
  • Little concern to other people
  • Conceitedness
  • Defeating attitude
  • ...and a lot more!!!

I can already hear you saying that these are not you! I tell you, that's another "bad" attitude that Filipinos make... We do not know when or how to accept our mistakes. Instead of defending ourselves that we are not these, I think it is more wise to study our own selves and change the things that needs to be changed. Some examples of these things are we spend our money on petty stuffs [we could have invested in to earn more money - given you know what you're doing], littering [cigarette butts, plastics, etc. are everywhere], being so boastful for your blessings in life, not being able to share your blessings to the people who needs it more than you do, and a lot more!

If we do not change our bad attitudes to positive/good ones, we'll hardly be successful in ANYTHING in life as an individual and as a society.

The ONLY WAY to help our country is to HELP YOURSELF become a BETTER YOU in ALL ASPECTS [physical, mental, social, spiritual, financial].

Attention: 3rd and 4th year highschool students

I'd like to share my brief story when I was about to graduate in highschool. Should I start with the words "Once upon a time"? Nahhhhh!

Anyway, when I was about to finish highschool I wanted to take up Conservatory of Music as my College Degree. But my parents [specifically my father, I bet he doesn't remember it] said to me that there is NO MONEY in that career. During that time, the "trend" of employment was in Computer Engineering. Guess what? This is what I took in college as per my parents advice because the salary of this career is big.

Now your question might be, "Why are you telling this?

I'm telling you this because it's VERY IMPORTANT that YOU [the graduating highschool student] choose your own College Degree according to what you REALLY want. But picking a College Degree is not an easy thing. It entails a lot of thinking and as much as possible seek help from your Guidance Counselor. It's important that you choose it for yourself because you are the one who will eventually use it after college not your circle of influence [even your parents]. It's good to listen to their "advices" but at the end of the day, you should be the one to pick your own course.

My tip for picking your College Degree are the following:
  • Top 3 favorite highschool subjects
  • Top 3 favorite things that you do or things you "enjoy" doing

It is important to choose a College Degree in "relation" to what interests you because more or less after college your job would be [or should I say MUST be] in relation to what you "enjoy" doing.

Cheers!!!

College life [again]

I'm going back to school. After years of absence, I am going back to school.

"A college degree will not guarantee success [financially]." I still believe in this! BUT it is also true that having a college degree is a big advantage if you want to become financially successful.

It may be true that some of the world's billionaires are not college degree holders but it doesn't mean that they became rich in as easy as 1-2-3. They didn't become rich out of luck. They became rich because of "educating" themselves in the field that they are in today. So still, education is their key why they became financially successful.

Whether we like it or not [I know I don't at first], it will always be an advantage if we are a college degree holder. Take your college life as an "OJT" to "more" education in the near future.

If you think the learning stops by the time we graduate college, you're 101% wrong! It's only the start of more in-depth knowledge seeking.

So keep on learning!!!

I'm back with blogging!
